headshot.JPG (265542 bytes)Kimberly Anne Spencer originally began Pilates with Marie-Jose Blom Laurence as a 13 year old student, after incurring shin splints from dancing with faulty alignment.  Pilates reshaped her body and kept her injury free while training for Royal Academy of Dance exams and many performances.  She continued Pilates while attending the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts (LACHSA) and while dancing with several LA dance troupes from ballet to post modern (with Rudy Perez) to Folklorico.   Ms. Spencer graduated LACHSA with two years of experience as a ballet teacher for Cal State LA's Saturday Conservatory program and a local ballet school, while also having choreographed for students of all ages including an award-winning play by Joshua Pohja titled Silhouettes Against the Moon.

During a four year stay as a soloist with State Street Ballet, Ms. Spencer continued to teach ballet and choreograph at the company's school.  Alongside choreographing original works and setting many classical variations for their Young Dancers troupe she coached several students for competitions and performances.  While also dancing and teaching ballet, Ms. Spencer taught Pilates for two years before relocating to San Francisco where she continued teaching Pilates for another two years.

Ms. Spencer returned to Los Angeles in 2002, where she taught Pilates and was the administrative management for a Pilates studio and outpatient Physical Therapy clinic in South Pasadena for six years.  She gained invaluable experience by working with clientele of all physical abilities, patients and Physical Therapists.

Kimberly continues to enjoy learning from therapists and leaders in Physical Therapy, Pilates, strength training, and athletics to enhance her knowledge.  She is particularly interested in the development of young athletes and adults with physical/movement challenges.  Her more recent addition of coaching competitive gymnasts, instructing dance technique and choreographing floor routines has brought a new found joy to think outside the box of traditional dance instruction.  Parents have remarked on how much more fluid, graceful, controlled and precise their gymnasts demonstrate after training with Ms Spencer.  She has also made appearances in a couple fitness DVD's including Denise Austin's Fit & Firm Pregnancy for the post-partum segment, just seven months after the birth of her second child.  Ms. Spencer is happy to rejoin creative forces with Joshua Pohja and the new theater company, The Duende Collective.  Be sure to stay updated on performances by going to the Duende website or click here for recent media activity.

Kimberly is challenged by balancing her career with that of her talented eight year old gymnast and a very energetic and physically active son.  Just as she challenges clients to bring balance to their body and mind, she strives to bring symmetry into her life as well.

Kimberly's extensive knowledge of movement comes from a lifetime dedicated to dancing, teaching, Pilates, and keen awareness.  Enriched by all her experiences, her exceptional and detailed instruction helps all clients improve their daily living and fitness abilities with newly found body awareness.
